Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do I hire a dancer?
To book a dancer, please review the questions below. Then send us an email requesting availability and bringing up any questions you may have. Please include details of your event such as location, date and time, special occasion, type of venue, audience (background e.g.: Lebanese, Canadian etc., and how many) and any other details on the general feel of the event. We will send you a contract at this point.

  • What is required for a performance?
Requirements for a performance are a private, locking change room (not a public washroom) where the dancer may store her belongings, a powerful CD system (not a boom-box) or live band and sufficient dancing space that is safe for bare feet. We need a clear path to the dance area, so please adjust seating as necessary.

We require an environment that is free of harassment of a sexual nature or otherwise. If the dancer deems the environment unsafe for the above reasons, she may leave without rendering services. In that case, the client will still be responsible for paying the full amount.

  • How do I pay you?
We ask for a 50% deposit ahead of time if possible, via e-transfer or in person. This is refundable up to a week before the show. We ask that you pay in cash to avoid any complications. We ask that you pay the dancer when she arrives, before she changes into her costume. This means she can slip out after her performance, saving you time and allowing you to relax and enjoy your event.

  • How long is the show?
We recommend a performance time of 5-15 minutes per set. If you would like a longer performance, we suggest two separate sets to work within your guests attention span.

  • Do you provide your own music/costuming?
Yes. We can bring our music on CD, iPod, or flash drive. If you have any music requests, please let us know!

  • Is it appropriate for children/ work functions/ my grandmother?
Absolutely! Bellydance celebrates the feminine form, but it is completely family friendly. Children love the sparkling costumes and swirling veils, we love to do kids parties!

  • What kind of options are there?
Please don't hesitate to let us know the mood you're looking for, any color schemes you'd like us to work with, and what the background of your guests are so we can choose the best music.

Props such as finger cymbals, veil, sword, shamadan (candelabra), candle tray, hand candles and other fire props may be requested. Fire and sword require a nominal fee of $50 for preparation, safety and transportation issues. Specific styles such as traditional folk, bollywood fusion, Turkish, Egyptian and more are also available upon request.

  • My friend's niece said she will do it for $50. Why do you charge so much more?
A true professional dancer has put thousands of dollars into training, travel, costuming and more to bring you a sensational performance and expert entertainment. A hobbiest may give you a great price, but do you really want to make that your only consideration? Entertainment can make or break an event and hiring an amateur may mean an awkward or even embarrassing situation for you and your guests. Why take the risk?

Our prices do not just reflect the minutes spent performing, but all the work that goes into this business. Think of the time spent choreographing, rehearsing and fine-tuning our performance. Costs like marketing, websites, music licenses, and costuming. A professional bellydance costume costs anywhere from $350-$1200, not including jewelry and specialty props. We take this art form seriously and while we certainly don't do it for the money, we believe in charging what we are worth, and not undercutting other performers. Check prices for DJ's, cirque performers or hip-hop dancers and you will see that our rates are actually very reasonable. Read this article for a great write-up on bellydancers' prices.

  • What happens if my event is running late?
Dancers often have more than one show in a night and it is important that we stay on schedule. We understand that events often do not run on time, and are flexible with our performance time to within half an hour. Any longer than this and we must charge an extra $50 per half-hour, or may even need to leave to make it to our other shows. If you anticipate your event may be unpredictable time-wise, this is a great thing to let us know at the time of booking so we can leave more time between shows.

  • Can I make suggestions/requests during your show?
Be assured that audience participation will be included, if requested. You are welcome to point out any guests you'd like us to interact with, but be patient! The dancer will perform at least a song or two to entertain and warm up the guests before encouraging them to join her.

Please communicate any special suggestions or requests prior to the beginning of the performance. The performance has been carefully planned and it is difficult to make changes once the performance has begun. If for any reason the client needs the performance to be cut short, please approach the dancer privately before the show (or at the very least between songs), please do not interrupt the performance unless there is an emergency.

  • Do you accept tips?
We will not solicit tips from guests, but if they choose to tip on their own accord, they may hand them to us. Tips are not to be placed in the dancers costume, and any lewd behavior will not be tolerated. Any tips given to the dancer are hers to keep, in addition to her full payment amount.

  • Do you do Bachelor parties?
We are sorry, but male-only events like bachelor parties are not accommodated.

  • Please Contact Us with any other questions, or for more details and pricing.
